Almost every modern convenience that we see today was invented by someone. Someone out there just like you, either during a daydream, brainstorming session, or merely by accident turned their idea into an invention. From an end user standpoint, that’s great. However, from an inventor standpoint, we need to ask ourselves a few questions.
“Why do so many inventions and inventors merely come and go only to be forgotten in the pages of history?” But the more important question is, “Why do so many inventors with so many great inventions never make a dime off of their idea”?
We here at Invention Idea believe that every successful inventor needs to answer ‘YES’ to the following:
Inventor Questions:
- Do you have the courage to make mistakes and learn from them? Remember, mistakes are caused by experiments that failed to produce the desired result.
- Are you a gambler? Having a successful invention often comes down to a numbers game. Being willing to consistently roll the dice to make your dreams come true is a definite prerequisite.
- Are you willing to look at all the options available regardless of how crazy they may seem to you at the time? Just because 99% of other inventors follow a specific path doesn’t mean you should too. You should always be on the lookout for ways to be ‘inventive’. Pardon the pun.
- Are you looking for opportunities instead of guarantees? When it comes to being an inventor there are only opportunities and very few, if any, guarantees.
- When you hear the word “no”, do you often try a different approach? Sure rejection sucks but it is also a way of life. Just because 1 person turns you down or even 50 people turn you down, that doesn’t mean everyone will.
- Are you a team player? Chances are you don’t know everything about everything which means that you need to surround yourself with great people that are knowledgeable in the areas that you are not.
- Are you ready to embark upon a great adventure with a definite goal regardless of its ups and downs? The path of a successful inventor can feel like being on a roller coaster. One minute you’re at the top of your game and the next minute you feel hopelessly lost. Perseverance is key when it comes to success.
- Do you believe in yourself and your idea? If you don’t believe that you can become a successful inventor then you might as well stop reading this post because no matter what we say, it won’t help you one bit.
If you answered “yes” to all of these questions then congratulations! It sounds like you have the entrepreneurial spirit needed to help turn your invention idea into a marketable reality. However, only you have the drive to determine if your invention will become a success or a failure.
