Necessity is the mother of all invention

“Necessity is the mother of all inventions” – who ever said this was cent percent right. Or is he? Think of it again, and you might get an answer. Inventions just happen. They are not thought of before hand. No one wakes up one fine morning and says today I am going to invent something. It’s mostly an outcome of a process that goes terribly wrong, but produces some really great results – what we call an invention!

It actually takes a creative mind to come out with invention ideas. There are specific processes of doing things. But people, who generally don’t follow those rules and try something new, in a creative and imaginative way ofcourse, come up with inventions. “Hell, there are no rules here — we’re trying to accomplish something new” is what Thomas Edison had to say when asked about sticking to a process. He was one guy who enjoyed every bit of his work and was always curious to do things, otherwise being done in some traditional fashion since beginning of time, in a different(read new) way. It was the curiosity and the interest that made him and others come up with new invention ideas.

Talking about inventions, there has been a paradigm shift. What was curiosity till the mid 20th century has become innovation now. People don’t try new ways of doing the same thing; rather they think different things that no one ever thought of. Like color changing eye lenses, water car, a digital tattoo that changes its image to whatever and whenever you want, a floating building to overcome the space crunch, its new invention ideas that is driving the world today. So keep a look out. As they say, who knows what the future holds!
